What's it like to live in Santa Monica?

Moved to Santa Monica a year ago after living in Austin for 7 years and my quality of life has improved dramatically. The homeless situation is rough, but Austin’s homeless situation was bad too especially outskirts of downtown. So it really wasn’t a shock for me like it is for some people.
The food here is great. There is always something new to do. The beach is always a fallback. It’s super walkable. Due to all the walking, biking and beach volleyball my fitness level is back to what it was years ago.
EDIT: and the weather is fucking great.

Santa Monica faces the same challenges that any urban area does. But it’s still incredible. I’m just leaving the farmers’ market with some of the best produce in the world. I passed by 2 Michelin starred chefs while shopping there. The beach is amazing for walking, biking, surfing, volleyball, or just taking in the breeze. The schools are nationally ranked and the community college offers great programs available to the whole community. Best bike infrastructure in the region and plans to improve it. Great restaurants and beautiful sunsets. And, if you want to go to downtown LA, just hop on the E line.
Fun restaurants like Upper West, Lunetta, and Gilbert’s on Pico. And a great farmers’ market in Virginia Avenue Park on Pico on Saturdays.

It's amazing…especially your proximity to Trader Joe's.
Can't beat the weather
So many parks
Great public schools
4 shopping districts for a li'l city
Excellent underutilized public transit
World-class buzz worthy restaurants
the beach
and tons of homeless and mentally unstable people

I wouldn’t want to live in any other city. I can walk or bike anywhere in the city, the weather is the best, lots of awesome people live here, the bike infrastructure is coming along, I can jump in the ocean after work, the train comes here, the Big Blue Bus is awesome, we’re going to get a good city council again in November, the city staff is dope, I feel like the city often reflects my values around sustainability, mobility, equity,… I love it.
