I grew up in San Leandro and honestly I really like it. There's a little spill over of ghetto along the oakland border but in general I find it calm and feel safe in most areas. There's also some decent food around. San leandro marina is great for walks, runs and picnicking. Usually not hard to find parking anywhere. There's a bart station for commuting and a cute downtown. A few homeless here and there around downtown and the bayfair area though. A lot of people like to talk shit but idk I'm not fancy or anything. There's definitely quiet neighborhoods. If you find a spot you like specifically within San leandro dm me I'll give you a more specific opinion

Iâve been in SL 8 years. Love it. Close to two Bart stations, downtown is very nice. Hit one of the local restaurants to go and take it to the cooler, the local beer bar. They are cool with it since they donât serve food. As others have said, mostly peaceful, a few homeless, a few biker sideshows ( 2 Iâve seen in 8 years) , great restaurants. Oh also sign up with the local library, they do an annual comedy show with people youâve actually heard of, a wed night food and farmers market , and a summer adult reading program where you get prizes for reading âŚI might really miss the pizza hit book it program when I was a kid lol

We moved to San Leandro (Estudillo Estates neighborhood) from the Fruitvale/Dimond area in 2022. Night and day. We LOVE it here. This is largely because Estudillo Estates is a very nice neighborhood (super friendly neighbors with all kinds of neighborhood events for families) but I also think Downtown SL and other parts are quiet/safe (we got to Drakes Brewery on the other side of the 880 and itâs super chill). You do hear gun shots and/or fireworks off in the distance from time to time but never nearby. Weâre still shocked by how quiet the neighborhood is at night. That said, people get their mail stolen, I had something taken out of our car parked out front, so itâs not without crime. Itâs just far better than what we got used to in Oakland.
TLDR: Way safer/quieter than Oakland, but how much better will depend on which neighborhood and what part of Oakland youâre comparing it to.
