LookyLOO Review of Living in Dublin, Ohio

Dublin is just northwest of Columbus and possesses the magic mix of amazing suburban amenities and a fun, historic, and urban town center. Bridge Park, a downtown development, has brought restaurants, mid-rise apartments, riverfront paths, and year-round events to the area. At the same time, the rest of the city is made up of beautiful tree-lined neighborhood streets and some of the region’s strongest schools. It appeals to families, remote workers, and now, even a growing group of young professionals who want a denser community with access to parks, trails, and world-class golf.

Dublin is large enough to feel like its own small city but connected enough to Columbus that commutes remain manageable. This intersection of short distance from the major city and with a smaller urban energy in its own right is the secret sauce for cities across the country.

Dublin Irish Festival

Lifestyle in Dublin, Ohio

The lifestyle of locals in Dublin is a nice balance of parks and great schools, and a downtown with good restaurants, pubs, cafes, and boutique shopping. Many neighborhoods are walkable to the many playgrounds or green spaces, and the city maintains an extensive network of trails. Bridge Park is the center of the urban experience. It's a place beloved by locals for coffee runs, or a nice meal, and community gatherings for holidays or hitting up the farmer's market.

Families often spend weekends at the sports fields or pool complexes. Families and young professionals also get to enjoy the river paths, golf courses (Muirfield Village Golf Course is one of the best in the country), and the tons of Metro Parks nearby.

The community is known for well-organized festivals, especially the Dublin Irish Festival and Fore!Fest, an annual musical festival, but there are ongoing seasonal festivals throughout the year.

I live and work in Dublin and it’s becoming a better suburb than it once was. The Bridge Park area is newer and becoming a nice place to hang out. There’s always something going on there on the weekends. We also have easy access to major highways like 270 and 315 so it’s easy to get to other suburbs or downtown.

Housing is expensive as far as Ohio standards here. But if you’re coming from Manhattan it may not feel that way. Friend of mines sister moved here from Manhattan a couple years ago with her husband and kids. They bought a house but it was tough bc people are offering cash with no home inspection. Homes sell here fast like within a week of listing. As others said you might want to rent first.

Dublin does have a chip on their shoulder. They think they’re better than other suburbs. The golf tournament definitely is part of that elitism. People Who live west of the Scioto river are in what’s considered the richer part of town and there tends to be a certain mentality espoused by people who live there about those of us who live on the east side.

Also the “Dublin bubble” is a thing meaning people who were born and bred here often don’t like to venture out of Dublin to do anything social. Sure they’ll travel in the summer but it’s like they’re terrified of downtown.

Overall it’s a quiet nice safe place to live. Just gotta deal with the insufferable people who think they’re Irish during March every year.
