Brentwood is a nice community with a fantastic farmer’s market and frequent downtown events. Even though it has firm roots in agriculture there are many remote workers and the city runs a tech meetup during the week for people wanting to make connections. It is hot though!!

I have family out in Brentwood, we go there regularly for birthday and holiday parties at their place. They have a big house with a pool which would probably cost 3x in other areas of the bay. But that's about it. It's a rural farm area that is trying to reinvent itself, but at the moment still feels very bland. Generic strip malls and chains is the extent of culture out there.
Benicia is a very family friendly city you might consider. Small historic town vibes, everyone is neighborly, good schools, safe, clean etc. Affordability of homes is somewhere in the middle I suppose; expensive for Solano but lower relative to the bay area. You may get just slightly more house for the money out in Brentwood, but they're pretty comparable. For a day out in the city you can take a ferry ride which is pleasant. San Jose is pretty much the same distance as from Brentwood, but there's also a bridge toll involved unfortunately

We currently live in Brentwood and I’d say it’s a great place for a family. Brentwood to oak is about 45 minutes, sf and SJ about an hour during non commute times. Brentwood also has Bart about 10 minutes away which all of Solano county doesn’t and it’s considered east bay so only 1 bridge toll to cross to peninsula compared to 2. Overall, it’s a great choice as it’s a growing area for family’s
