What's it like to live in Redondo Beach?

I was born in Redondo Beach and have lived between here and neighboring Torrance for almost all of my life. It's a cute little beach town, the biggest and most encompassing of the three "Beach Cities" (Redondo, Hermosa, Manhattan).
Obviously, the beach and famous Kings Harbor are great, with most of the traffic of the region being centered in that area. Plenty of bars, restaurants, gift shops. Also lots of action in Riviera village all the way to the south.
On the northeastern edge of the city you have the dying South Bay Galleria mall which is slated to be converted to a public space and have a light rail stop added next to it in the next few years.
Public transit is scarce aside from the two Beach Cities Transit bus lines and a couple Torrance Transit lines. Despite having the highest per capita car ownership in Los Angeles County, Redondo Beach has some of the best protected bike lane infrastructure in LA, surprisingly.
The main industry here, like a lot of the South Bay, is aerospace.
The weather is essentially perfection year round.

I would prefer to live in Redondo Beach over Hermosa Beach by a bit and Santa Monica by a lot. The south part of Redondo Beach is great. It is very laid back attitude wise and more spread out than Hermosa. It might not be the best choice for you, though.
Redondo is the most affordable I think out of the options listed. I would also consider el Segundo, playa del Rey and Venice. Basically the areas in between Santa Monica and redondo.

My SO and I moved to North Redondo a little over a year ago from Torrance, and we’ve been loving it here. The streets are a bit Spartan, and I wish there was a bit more we could walk to, but hopefully they will begin to revitalize Artesia soon.
Otherwise, it feels like a really good balance: the slower pace of the South Bay, but still very close to LAX and our friends who live in LA; less than 10 minutes away from the beach without the price tag of Manhattan, Hermosa, or South Redondo; less stressful to drive around than LA but close to the Metro C line if we ever feel like going into Downtown without driving; easy to get to good Korean food in Gardena, Japanese food in Torrance, or seafood by the pier.
I would highly recommend it.
