It’s very safe and people are nice—though like most suburbs, seem to mostly keep to themselves. It’s clean. Great for families, but also a good home base even if you don’t have kids. Head up Lakeline and take a left on 1431, and you’re heading into gorgeous hill country. Only 20 minutes from the fun stuff in Austin, depending on traffic. Decently close to the lake if you like lake stuff. The train, such as it is and better than nothing, runs from Leander and Cedar Park to downtown Austin (not available yet in other burbs). And best part, for me, is unless you work off I-35, you can go months, or even years not even getting on I-35. And the awesomeness of that fact may not make sense now, but if you move to the Austin area, you’ll understand the beauty of that pretty quick.

The only con is if you don’t like suburbs, because it’s super suburb. But as far as suburbs go, it’s pleasant AF. Also, Brushy Creek Trail is fantastic for a walk/bike ride/hike.

I've lived in Cedar Park for 20 years and I love it very much. My kid went to Leander ISD schools and I've been happily involved in the district since he was in Kindergarten (he's a junior in HS now). I think CP is a really great place to raise a family.

There are places to have fun locally. We have plenty of bars, a few places for local and touring live music, bowling, faux-golf, there's all sorts of casual, adult sports to watch or participate in. We have gorgeous parks and more sunshine days per year than the average. We have maybe 3 weeks per year that we have to worry about extreme weather of one sort or another.

I grew up here and I like it. It can feel crowded sometimes on the roads nowadays. I used to bike to school when I was younger, but I think nowadays I'd feel a little unsafe doing that.

I think for kids and families there's a lot of stuff you find. There's plenty of recreational clubs and groups (martial arts, sports, art, churches, music, etc.).

We have HEB and Costco. Tons of local and chain options nearby to eat at.

There are some nice city parks with pools like Milburn, Lakeline, Brushy Creek (along the trail to the YMCA as well). They're relatively clean and pleasant to be at. If you go a little further like Balcones/Doeskin Ranch up North it's really pretty and a bit more remote too (about 30-40 minutes).

The schools are really good. I feel that the Fine Arts programs in LISD are fantastic (the high schools in particular). If your kids want to save money for college they can attend Austin Community College, which is another really great university. I think they have a tuition free program now for class of 2025 highschoolers that they want to continue going forward.

You can transfer those college credits from there to a public university like UT Austin, or Texas State (I commuted there from CP. Tedious but doable) nearby and save some money.

If you don't mind driving, you can find almost anything you can think of except mountains and beaches within 1-2 hours.

Cedar Park is chill if your priorities are living in a chill and slow paced place to raise a family and short commute to work. You’ll find all the big decent grocery stores (whole foods, HEB, Target, Walmart and even a Natural Grocers) in the area. Leander ISD is pretty good. Traffic isn’t bad. There are plenty of natural and kid geared spaces. Plenty of gyms and strip mall restaurants, some mom and pop and lots of chain ones, and coffee shops. However, cedar park is bland. There is no real nightlife and not walkable at all. You will depend on your vehicle a lot albeit for a short drive. If you like the water or boating I would recommend Jonestown or Lago Vista, although Austin metro is suffering a drought atm. Housing can be expensive but cheaper than Austin’s popular areas and you do get more bang for your buck in terms of sq ftage and upgrades. I don’t know anything about Kansas so I can’t compare but summers are HOT. Last summer was brutal but this past summer hasn’t been as bad. Winter is mild with lows in the 30’s and highs in the low 60’s with the occasional freeze. Doesn’t snow often. However, if you want to the feeling of a city I would live in Austin proper. You get more walkable places, depending where you land, but school district are hit or miss and traffic sucks in some places.
